Palm Springs Pride’s New General Counsel Has Deep Roots in Community

April 11, 2017, Palm Springs, CA --Greater Palm Springs Pride is pleased to announce the appointment of Barbara Barrett as its new attorney of record. Ms. Barrett will provide legal services, advice and assistance to Palm Springs Pride in all areas of non-profit law and general legal matters.

Barbara Barrett has been practicing law since 1983. She had a law office in San Francisco for many years and then a second office in Sonoma County. She opened her Palm Springs office in 2002. Barbara studied law at Golden Gate University. She taught writing and research at Golden Gate to first-year law students and was selected to be on Law Review. While in San Francisco she also performed pro bono legal work for the AIDS Legal Referral Panel.

In addition to serving as General Counsel for Greater Palm Springs Pride, Barbara is active in the community and serves on the Advisory Board Palm Canyon Theatre and is a volunteer with the California Innocence Project. She is founder of the We Care Free Mammogram Program, which is credited for providing 6,000 free mammograms to uninsured/underinsured women of Coachella Valley. From 2005-2015, she served as president of Desert Women for Equality and she has served on advisory councils for the Golden Rainbow Center, The Pride Center and The LGBT Center of the Desert. She has also served as a director on the board of Directors Desert Business Association and as a commissioner for the Palm Springs Human Rights Commission.

In 2010 her service to the community was recognized when Barbara and her wife Sharon Doty were presented with the Pride Honors’ Volunteer of the Year award.
